COLLEGE STATION -- With rain showers being predicted to continue into the evening, No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 20 Wake Forest have agreed to postpone tonight’s men’s tennis match until Tuesday.
The start time will remain at 6 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, where the No. 19 Aggies (6-4) are an undefeated 3-0 this season including a recent 4-3 victory over regional rival TCU on March 8.
Winners of three of their last four matches, the Aggies close out their homestand against No. 31 Indiana on Wednesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. A&M will then turnaround and travel to No. 43 Pepperdine for a Saturday, March 15 dual match in Malibu, Calif.
Playing some of his best tennis of the spring season, junior Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) is currently on a two-match win streak as he downed No. 21-ranked Cosmin Cotet of TCU and Aleksandr Seleznev of Old Dominion over the weekend. Pollock, who is currently ranked No. 31 nationally in the ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings, picked up his second-straight win on a service ace versus Cotet to close out the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. It marked his fourth win over a ranked opponent this season. He has compiled a team-leading 7-3 dual match record at No. 1 singles for the Aggies and is also an undefeated 9-0 in doubles play with teammates Austin Krajicek (5-0) at the No. 1 line and Chris Chirico (4-0) at the No. 2 line. Pollock and Chirico went 2-0 for the week in doubles versus the Monarchs and Horned Frogs combined.
Wake Forest (9-3) and Indiana (9-2) will be making a two-match road swing through the Lone Star State. The Demon Deacons will face A&M and TCU on March 14, while the Hoosiers will take on SMU on March 10 prior to A&M. The Aggies are 6-1 all-time versus Wake Forest and last met 11 years ago in 1997. Meanwhile, the series with Indiana is tied 2-2 with both program’s last meeting in 1991. A&M is 2-1 against ACC schools this year with victories over No. 30 Clemson (6-1) on Jan. 25 and No. 10 Duke (4-3) on Feb. 29.
Where’s Wilson? Promotion...Wilson is the newest teammate to the Texas A&M men’s and women’s tennis teams. Wilson, a smiling tennis ball, will be hiding at every home match this season at the Mitchell Tennis Center. One lucky fan who finds him will receive a pair of Crocs compliments of Texas A&M University and will be entered into a grand prize contest to win an iPod Touch that will be held during the women’s Lone Star Showdown match versus rival Texas on April 16. Fans are encouraged to come out to the matches early to increase their chances of being the first person to find Wilson.
