BRYAN -- Since 1971 the Bryan Viking football team has played at Viking Stadium. This fall the team will play at the same stadium, but Monday night it was renamed to honor the school's longtime head coach Merrill Green.
Green coached the Vikings from 1972 to 1991 and won 139 games during his 20 year career with the Big Blue.
While Green stepped away from coaching, he stayed involved in the community and was voted to the Bryan Independent School Board in 2000 and currently is the board president.
Green said Monday evening he was truly honored that the district would rename the same in his honor.
