CORPUS CHRISTI -- Ryan Trevino went 2-for-4 at the plate and accounted for Sam Houston State's only run with an RBI single in the fifth inning, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to hand the Bearkats a 4-1 loss Friday night.
The loss was the second in two nights to the Islanders. Sam Houston State will be out to prevent an Islander sweep of the Southland Conference series when the pair meet for the third and final game of the weekend at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Bryan Gerondale and Stephen Flora each hit two-run home runs as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Will Skelton held the Islanders scoreless for the first four innings, allowing Corpus Christi only three hits during that span. But, after giving up the two home runs and two other hits. Brent Powers took the mound to finish the game, holding the Islanders hitless the next three innings.
Todd Sebek continued his hitting streak, going 1-for-4. Sebek has now hit safely in all 20 games this year, plus the final game of the 2007 season at the NCAA regional finals in Mississippi.
Omar Guitierrez was the winning pitcher for the Islanders, spreading five hits over six innings.
Sam Houston State dropped to 12-8 for the season and 3-2 in Southland Conference action. TAMUCC upped its mark to 5-14 for the year and 2-3 in league play.
