HUNTSVILLE – Keith Stein, Seth Hammock, and Todd Sebek hit home runs in the first and third innings to lead Sam Houston State to a 14-3 non-conference baseball victory over Texas Southern Wednesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
The Bearkats totaled 13 hits including a triple by Bobby Verbick and doubles by Daniel Nottebart and Ryan Weber. Seven Sam Houston pitchers limited Texas Southern to five hits.
Sam Houston upped its season mark to 14-9 while the Tigers fell to 7-13. The Bearkats next action is a Southland Conference three-game weekend series with Texas State-San Marcos which begins Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Huntsville.
Up 2-1, the Bearkats broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Weber’s one-out double started the action. Sebek singled and Stein was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Verbick walked to score the first run. Sebek scored on an infield error. Heath Pugh singled in a run. Nottebart doubled in another. Hammock brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Braedon Riley wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single.
Sam Houston added three runs in the third inning and single runs in the fourth and sixth.
Spencer Parrish, freshman from College Park, started his first college game, allowing two hits, walking five batters and striking out two. Cody Springer, Dallas Gallant, Zac Baker, Guillaume Duguay, Adam Albright, and Casey Springer all pitched in relief.
Danilio Carcanmo (0-3) was the losing pitcher for Texas Southern.
