AUSTIN - Sam Houston State's women's 4x400 relay has earned a spot in the finals at the Texas Relays with an outstanding performance Friday in the preliminaries.
The quartet of Tiffany Singleton, Jessica Fisher, Monika May, and Desiree Taylor rounded the track in 3:44.19 to finish sixth among the qualifiers for the finals.
Southern California was the number one finisher in the preliminaries with a time of 3:39.99. Other teams in the finals include Arkansas, Abilene Christian, California, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Alabama-Birmingham.
The finals of the women's 4x400 will be Saturday afternoon.
In other Texas Relays action for Sam Houston State, Chris Cralle placed seventh in the hammer with a throw of 194 feet, eight inches; Travis Matthews was eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 16 feet, 6.75 inches, and Kendall Bass was 11th in the women's hammer with a toss of 172 feet, three inches.
Lane Dennis (52.21) and Jay Newman (54.79) were 11th and 32nd, respectively in the 400 meter hurdles preliminaries.
Dakota Stewart (1:02.03) and Tiana Lee (1:02.26) placed 17th and 18th in the women's 400 meter hurdle competition.
Jessica Fisher (11.95) and Regina Offord (12.13) were 28th and 40ths, respectively in the 100 meter dash.
