AUSTIN (AP) - The University Interscholastic League today
suspended Fort Worth Southwest basketball coach Scott Gray for one
Gray was penalized for criticizing game officials after his team
lost in the Class 4A championship.
Gray was already on probation after being ejected from a game
during the season -- when he went into a postgame rant after his
team lost to Dallas South Oak Cliff.
Gray criticized the selection process for officials and
suggested those working the games were too slow to react in a
fast-paced game. He singled out an official from Amarillo.
UIL spokeswoman Kim Rogers says league rules require coaches to
respect game officials and the calls made on the court.
Although Gray said during the season he planned to step down,
Rogers says school officials told the UIL that he has not yet
submitted his resignation.
Gray's suspension will follow him to any other UIL member
