COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M women’s tennis team returns home Friday to play host to the Kansas State Wildcats. First serve is at 6 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Aggies, 12-6 overall, are in third place in the Big 12 Conference with a 6-1 mark after defeating both Missouri and Colorado on the road last weekend. Only Baylor (8-0) and Texas (6-0) are ahead of A&M in the conference standings, while Texas Tech and Colorado are each two games back at 4-3.
Kansas State is 6-10 overall and in 10th place in the Big 12 with a 2-5 league record. The Wildcats fell to both Texas Tech and Baylor by identical 5-2 scores last weekend to conclude a five-match home stand.
Big 12 Player of the Week Morgan Frank leads the Aggies, as she boasts a 7-0 mark in both singles and doubles in conference matches. The freshman from Oldsmar, Fla., is riding a team-leading eight-match winning streak in singles and is tied with freshman Christi Liles (Largo, Fla.) for most singles wins in dual matches with 14.
In doubles, Frank and partner Stephanie Davidson (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas) post a 14-2 record in dual matches and are riding a team-best five-match winning streak, all at the No. 3 line. They are atop the Big 12 standings with a 7-0 record.
Aggie senior Anna Blagodarova (Toronto, Ontario) is 6-1 in Big 12 singles matches, having seen action at the Nos. 2 and 3 lines. She is 95-48 in her singles career, tying Monica Rebolledo for third place in the A&M all-time career records. Blagodarova and teammate Tiffany Clifford (Little Rock, Ark.) have 88 career doubles victories apiece, putting them in a three-way tie for fifth in the A&M career doubles records.
A&M sophomore Elzé Potgieter is ranked No. 75 in the ITA national singles rankings. She is 6-1 in conference matches, the second most wins in the league at the No. 1 line.
A&M is a perfect 13-0 against the Wildcats and has given up only one point against KSU in the last six matches combined. Last year, the 21st-ranked Aggies defeated KSU, 7-0, in Manhattan, Kan.
The match against the Wildcats marks the start of the Aggies’ final home stand of the regular season, as they host Kansas on Sunday at 1 p.m., and then conclude the home portion of the regular-season schedule against No. 20 Texas in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Blagodarova, Clifford and Marisa Druss, A&M’s three seniors, will be honored prior to the match against the rival Longhorns.
