LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - Juniors Buck Afenir and Preston Land hit
two-run homers in the bottom of the sixth to lead Kansas to a 5-2
conference win over Texas Tech.
The win also gave the Jayhawks a three-game weekend sweep of the
Red Raiders (17-19 overall, 4-11 in the Big 12).
The Jayhawks (22-16, 4-8) had lost six straight conference games
prior to the weekend.
Texas Tech tied the score at one-all in the sixth inning, but
Afenir slammed an 0-1 pitch over the center field fence to break
the tie. Three batters later, Land extended the lead to 5-1 with
his fifth home run of the season.
Paul Smyth earned his second win of the season, pitching 3 2/3
innings of relief.
