BRYAN -- Texas A&M Associate Women's Head Basketball Coach Vic Schaefer has withdrawn his name from consideration for the women's basketball coaching vacancy at the University of North Texas.
Last week Schaefer met with Mean Green officials about its vacancy, but Tuesday officially withdrew his name from consideration and said he was "moving on".
Schaefer has been Gary Blair's top assistant for 11 seasons. The duo have been to the NCAA tournament 7 times in the last 11 years including a Final Four appearance with Arkansas in 1998 and an Elite Eight appearance with the Aggies this season.
Prior to joining forces with Blair, Schaefer was the bench boss at his alma mater, Sam Houston State from 1990 to 1997.
North Texas is looking to replace Tina Slinker who's contract was not renewed after 19 seasons in Denton.
