Aggie Men's Track Remains No. 1, Women No. 3 In Recent Rankings

COLLEGE STATION -- For the second consecutive week the Texas A&M men are No. 1 in the USTFCCCA rankings while the Aggie women remain No. 3.

The first A&M men’s team to be ranked No. 1 during the regular season in any sport since baseball in 1999, the Aggie men maintained their top billing with impressive performances at the UCLA Invitational this past weekend.

Upcoming for Texas A&M is a trip to Baton Rouge, La., for the April 19 LSU Alumni Gold Invitational, which will feature ranked teams in LSU, No. 1 on the women’s side and No. 2 LSU in the men’s field, Auburn (No. 8 men), and Mississippi (No. 18 women).

Following the No. 1 Aggie men, with a point total of 301.67, in this week’s rankings are: 2. LSU (265.55), 3. UCLA (248.25); 4. Tennessee (217.82); 5. Florida State (215.58); 6. Florida (209.19); 7. Arizona State (199.55); 8. Auburn (192.64); 9. UTEP (161.23); 10. Texas (148.18).

The A&M women, with a point total of 320.47, trail only No. 1 LSU (412.02) and No. 2 Arizona State (357.84). Following the Aggies are: 4. Florida (184.16); 5. USC (183.25); 6. UTEP (175.14); 7. Miami (168.05); 8. Virginia Tech (158.01); 9. UCLA (152.29); 10. Auburn (147.01).

In the men’s event rankings the Aggies lead the men’s triple jump with Julian Reid’s 54-3 ¾ (16.55) with teammates Zuheir Sharif (53-10 ¼ - 16.41) and Tyron Stewart (52-9 ½ - 16.09) ranked second and fourth nationally.

Texas A&M is also ranked second in the 4 x 100 (38.83) and 4 x 400 (3:04.09) relays. Chris Dykes moved to No. 3 in the nation with his 20.64 winning time in the 200 at UCLA. Other top 10 rankings include Gerald Phiri (10.22) in the 100 and A.C. Robinson (45.97) in the 400.

The Aggie women currently have a pair of national leading marks with Jessica Beard (52.04) in the 400 as well as the 4 x 100 (42.97) relay. Porscha Lucas ranks second in the 200 (22.99) as does the A&M 4 x 400 (3:32.21). Others in the top 10 include Simone Facey (11.11) and Lucas (11.20) at No. 3 and No. 4 in the 100, Yasmine Regis (43-5w – 13.23) in the triple jump and Khrystal Carter (23.40) in the 200.

A&M women predicted for third place in T&FN NCAA formchart

Track & Field News updated formchart for the women’s NCAA Championship still has Texas A&M predicted for a third-place finish with 47 points behind favored LSU (62) and Arizona State (58). The rest of the top 10 teams includes: 4. Virginia Tech (34), 5. UCLA (32); 6. Texas Tech (31); 7. Michigan (28); 8. Florida State (26); 9. USC (25); 10. Stanford (24).

In individual events Simone Facey is tabbed the favorite in the 200 as well as the 4 x 400 relay. The defending champion 4 x 100 relay unit is currently second to favored LSU. The Aggie women are predicted for the following finishes:

100 meters: 3. Porscha Lucas; 5. Simone Facey

200 meters: 1. Simone Facey; 4. Porscha Lucas

400 meters: 5. Jessica Beard

4 x 100 relay: 2. Texas A&M

4 x 400 relay: 1. Texas A&M
