Kats Saddle Cowboys With 2-1 Loss

HUNTSVILLE – Seth Hammock’s sacrifice fly to left field scored Todd Sebek in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Sam Houston State a 2-1 victory over McNeese State Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium.

Sebek led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a single up the middle and reached third on an error by the pitcher on an attempted pickoff play.

Both starting pitchers, Ryan Tepera for Sam Houston and Tyler Davis for McNeese, went the regulation nine inning. Each totaled five strike outs with Teppera giving up eight hits and Davis limiting the Bearkats to four hits.

Zac Baker (1-0) got the victory pitching the 10th inning in relief. Justin LeBleu (1-2) was the losing pitcher.

The Cowboys scored first as, with two outs, Trey Freeman walked and Nic Eubanks singled before Kei Patnode drove in Freeman with a single.

Sam Houston tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth as Mark Wyatt doubled off the center field wall then scored on a single up the middle by Ryan Weber.

Bobby Verbick, Mark Wyatt, Jaime Rohlmeier, and Ryan Weber accounted for the Berakats’ first four hits, all in the first five innings.

Sam Houston left eight runners stranded while the Cowboys left six on base in the first nine innings.
