HUNTSVILLE – Nick Zaleski and Mark Wyatt each hit home runs and Keith Stein and Ryan Trevino added doubles to lead Sam Houston State to an 11-1 victory over McNeese State to complete the Bearkats’ second consecutive Southland Conference baseball series sweep.
The three victories over the Cowboys upped Sam Houston’s record to 25-14 for the season and 12-6 in Southland Conference. McNeese State dropped to 10-29 for the year and 5-13 in league action.
The Bearkats jumped in front quickly with four runs on five hits and an error in the second inning.
Nick Zaleski led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Jaime Rohlmeier. Ryan Weber singled to score Zaleski. Braeden Riley singled to right field to score Rohlmeier and Riley scored on a Cowboy error. Keith Stein scored Trevino with an infield single.
Sam Houston added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, two more in the sixth, then ended the game with the run-rule with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
For the day, the Bearkats totaled 14 hits. Stein was 3-for-3 at the plate and Trevino 3-for-5. Todd Sebek and Braeden Riley each had two hits.
Guillaume Duguay (2-0) was the winning pitcher, giving up four hits in seven innings while striking out six. Zac Baker pitched one inning in relief.
Michael Robbins (0-1) was the loser in his first start of the season.
