GARLAND -- The Bryan boys gymnastics team claimed the school's 5th state championship on Friday with a convincing win over L.D. Bell at the 42nd UIL State Gymnastics Championships at the Garland Convention Center.
Bryan won the meet with a two day total of 340.8 points while L.D. Bell came in 2nd with 333.525 points and host Garland Lakeview was 3rd with 329.4 points.
Matthew Kelly led the Vikings after tying for the All Around crown. He's the first Viking to ever win the gold medal in the All Around competition. Kelly also sits in first place in the high bar heading into the individual event finals on Saturday.
Isaac Rodriguez was 4th in the All Around competition and sits in first place in the still rings.
Enoch Rodriguez is in first place in the Pommel Horse, while Stefan Quaremont and Alex Reyes rounded out the Viking 5 that became the first quintet to win a state championship since 1979.
