NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans Hornets are in the Western
Conference semifinals after Chris Paul recorded a triple-double in
a 99-94 win over Dallas in Game 5 of the opening-round series.
Paul had 24 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds for the Hornets,
who went on an 11-1 spurt to take an 84-67 lead early in the fourth
quarter. David West finished with 25 points and Jannero Pargo added
17 while Tyson Chandler delivered 10 and 14 rebounds.
Devean George scored all 11 of his points while the Mavs were
cutting a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to 97-94 with 33 seconds
left. But Dallas never led and was eliminated in the first round
for the second straight year.
Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 22 points but shot just
8-for-21. Jason Kidd was among seven Mavs to score in
double-figures, finishing with 14 points and nine assists.
