AUSTIN -- The A&M Consolidated girls' golf team is probably the most inexperienced in the UIL Class 5A state tournament, with 1 senior and 4 sophomores, but you wouldn't know it by their opening round score of 319.
The Lady Tigers are in first place with a 2 stroke lead over South Lake Carroll (321), Plano West is in 3rd, 4 strokes back at 324.
Casey Grice paced A&M Consolidated with a 4 under par 68 and leads the 5A medalist race by 6 strokes over Plano West's Megan Rosenfield and Mariah Montoya of Lubbock Coronado.
Other scores for the Lady Tigers: Erin Jang 80, Kim Gibson 84, Haley Green 87, Shikhi Cheruku 89.
The Lady Tigers will tee it up for their final round Friday morning starting at 8:50 at the Jimmy Clay Municipal Golf Course.
If the A&M Consolidated girls' golf team can hold on and win the state championship it would be the first athletic state title claimed by the Tigers in Class 5A.
