Gibson, Hinshaw Named Midwest All-Region

COLLEGE STATION -- Senior Texas A&M softball players Megan Gibson and Jamie Hinshaw were named to the 2008 NFCA Midwest All-Region team, the selection committee announced this week.

Gibson, a native of Spring, Texas was named to the NFCA All-Region first team while Hinshaw, a Missouri City, Texas-native, was named to the second team.

Both players helped A&M to its best ever finish in league play (17-1), leading the Aggies to their second Big 12 regular season title since 2005 and their first ever tournament championship title.

Gibson, selected as an utility/pitcher, led the Big 12 in wins (33), innings pitched (229), shutouts (16), complete games (32) and walks (45). The two-time All-American was voted the league’s Most Outstanding Player at the Big 12 Championship last weekend in Oklahoma City and was recently named one of ten finalists for USA Softball’s National Player of the Year award.

Gibson was also the first player in conference history to be selected as both Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year in the same season.

Hinshaw, who was selected at the third base position, has started every game of her career and all but one at the hot corner for the Aggies. The All-Big 12 first team selection leads the team in runs scored (44) and hits (62). She ranks second in doubles (12) and homeruns (5).

In Big 12 games this season, Hinshaw boasted a league third-best .410 average at the plate. Through 18 league games, she ranked second in hits (25), runs scored (19) and total bases (40).

The 4th-ranked Aggie softball team opens play in the 2008 NCAA College Station Regional Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin at the Aggie Softball Complex.
