Paterno Taken To Pennsylvania Hospital For Apparent Dehydration

By  |

STATE COLLEGE, PA -- Penn State football coach Joe Paterno is in a State College hospital undergoing tests and is being treated for apparent dehydration.

A team spokesman says the 81-year-old coach was taken to Mount
Nittany Medical Center by ambulance today after feeling nauseated.

An aide says Paterno still plans to make a trip to Austin
tomorrow for a dinner with University of Texas football coach Mack
Brown.

Paterno has been on a busy schedule -- traveling to Philadelphia
last weekend. He also recently returned from a meeting with Big Ten
football coaches.

Paterno is coming off two 9-4 seasons that each included bowl
wins -- including a victory at the Alamo Bowl, over Texas A&M, in
December.

His 372 career wins rank second only to Florida State coach
Bobby Bowden's 373 among major college coaches.
