Mathis Struggles, Rangers Fall To Twins

By  |

ARLINGTON -- Doug Mathis gave up nine runs in 2 1/3 innings and the Rangers lost to the Twins, 11-4, at the Metrodome on Tuesday. The Rangers have lost three consecutive games, their longest losing streak since they lost seven in a row in April.
The Twins scored two in the first and seven in the third inning off of Mathis, who was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three relief appearances before making his first start. Three of the nine runs were unearned because of errors by catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and second baseman Ian Kinsler.

Glen Perkins threw six scoreless innings before the Rangers broke through with three runs in the seventh. Brian Bass then took over, striking out Michael Young and getting Josh Hamilton to ground out with the bases loaded to end the threat.

The Rangers have lost six straight at the Metrodome going back to last season.
