Bearkats Top Northwestern St. In SLC Tourney Opener

HUNTSVILLE – Todd Sebek and Seth Hammock each had a pair of hits and two RBIs and Dallas Gallant gave up only six hits and a run in his second complete game of the season as Sam Houston State defeated Northwestern State 7-1 in the first round of the Southland Conference baseball tournament at Don Sanders Stadium.

Gallant (8-3) struck out four batters and threw 129 pitched to the 35 batters he faced as Sam Houston upped its season record to 34-23.

The Bearkats will face No. 8 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the 7 p.m. second round game Thursday. The Islanders upset No. 1 seed UTSA, the 13th time in the 20-year history of the Southland tournament that the No. 1 seed has lost in the first round.

Braeden Riley and Ryan Weber each added RBIs as Sam Houston totaled nine hits.

Sebek had two doubles, and Hammock and Weber added one apiece.
