PARIS (AP) - Some of the top-ranked players are off to a good
start at the French Open.
Second-ranked Ana Ivanovic struggled with her serve, but advanced to the second round with a straight-set win over Sofia Arvidsson.
American Serena Williams plays later today.
On the men's side, sixth-seeded David Nalbandian and seventh-seeded American James Blake have advanced. Blake's three-set win over German Rainer Schuettler made him the first American man to reach the second round at Roland Garros since 2006.
