Arizona State Is 1 Win From NCAA Softball Title

By  |

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Freshman Krista Donnenwirth homered and had two RBI singles to lead Arizona State past Texas A&M 3-0 in Game 1 of the Women's College World Series finals.

Donnenwirth went the opposite way for a pair of run-scoring
singles to right. She also pulled an inside pitch over the
left-field fence for a solo home run to provide all the offense for
the Sun Devils.

Katie Burkhart (40-5) struck out 10 in a two-hitter, yielding
only a pair of doubles and never allowing Texas A&M to put a runner
on third.

The win puts sixth-seeded Sun Devils one victory away from their
first national softball title.

Game 2 of the best-of-three championship series will be tomorrow
night.
