ARLINGTON -- The Texas Rangers have placed right-handed starter Vicente Padilla on bereavement leave while dealing with what the team calls "a family personal matter."
Padilla returned to his native Nicaragua Sunday and missed his
regularly scheduled start yesterday. The Rangers had planned to
push Padilla back to tonight, but left-hander A.J. Murray will come
up from Triple-A Oklahoma to make that start.
Manager Ron Washington says he doesn't know when Padilla will
return, but he says Padilla could pitch Friday, Saturday or Sunday
against Tampa Bay.
Padilla's absence isn't the only thing causing changes to the
Rangers rotation. Washington said Sidney Ponson will pitch on three
days' rest tomorrow in place of Kevin Millwood. Millwood is out to
tend to a personal matter and is now the scheduled starter
