COLLEGE STATION -- Seven Texas Aggie baseball players saw their names scroll across the computer screen during the final day of the Major League Baseball Draft. Relief Pitcher Kyle Thebeau was a 9th round selection by the San Diego Padres and was number 285 overall.
In the 10th round the Chicago Cubs select Alex Wilson with the 311th overall selection. Wilson transferred in from Winthorp, had Tommy John surgery and has yet to throw a pitch for the Aggies. The Washington Nationals dial up Blake Stouffer's number in the 13th round. The Aggie second baseman was the 391st player selected.
A&M Consolidated product and Texas A&M slugger Luke Anders gets the call from the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers tab Luke in round 16 at number 500.
The Atlanta Braves pick Dane Carter in the 22nd round and the Aggie third baseman is the 670th overall pick. In the next round, Brian Ruggiano gets snapped up by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Aggie utility player is listed as a 2nd baseman in the draft and was the 697th player selected.
The final Aggie drafted was pitcher Kirland Rivers and he might get to play close to home someday. The Houston Astros take the A&M relief pitcher in the 37th round at 1112.
