HOUSTON (AP) - Until today, Jordan Dodson's senior season at
Rice was mostly forgettable. But an unexpected start led to a big
day for Dodson and his teammates in their biggest game of the year.
Dodson, who entered the game hitting just .167, went 3-for-3
with four RBIs to lead Rice past Texas A&M 9-7 in the opener of the
best-of-three Houston Super Regional series.
Left-handed reliever Cole St. Clair gave up just one run over
the final 4 1-3 innings, bringing the Owls within one win of their
third straight College World Series appearance and seventh since
Chad Mozingo and J.P. Padron added two hits apiece for the Owls,
who have won four straight games in the postseason and haven't lost
in the regional or super regional round since 2006.
St. Clair allowed two hits and struck out three.
