BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Celtics watched their 24-point fourth-quarter lead cut to two before recovering to beat the L.A. Lakers 108-102 to take a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals.
The Celtics took command with a 15-2 third-quarter run that gave
them a 24-point lead early in the fourth quarter. But the Lakers
used a 31-9 run to close within two points in the final minute.
Pierce hit two free throws with 22.8 seconds left to give Boston a
106-102 lead. Pierce then blocked a three-point shot by Sasha
Vujacic preserve the win.
Boston's perfect record against the Lakers this season remains
intact. Including these two playoff victories, the Celtics are
4-and-0 against the Lakers.
Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 28 points. James Posey made two
free throws with 12.6 seconds left that iced it for Boston. He also
had eight assists. Leon Powe gave the Celtics a spark with 21
points in 15 minutes off the bench. Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen
each had 17.
Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 30 points for the Lakers.
