BRYAN -- The Brazos Valley Bombers are back for their second summer in the Texas Collegiate League! After an impressive inaugural season that included a 23-20 record, a playoff appearance, and the TCL’s first no-hitter, the Bombers look to make an even greater impact this season.
Garrett Duff, Tyler Davis and John Touchton return this summer ready to anchor the Bombers rotation, which finished fourth in the TCL last summer with a 3.60 ERA. They will be joined by newcomers Daniel Meadows, Jim McGonigle and Dustin Rasco in solidifying their pitching staff. Davis finished tied for second in the TCL last season with six saves, while posting a 1.72 ERA. Pitching for Duncanville, Rasco also had six saves and an incredible 27 strikeouts in just 15 innings.
T.J. Mittelstaedt, Kip Masuda, and Nick Anders also return this summer to lead a balanced offensive attack that includes Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Todd Cunningham and Bombers Home Run Derby Champion Eric Udell. Serving as the Jacksonville Gamecocks leadoff hitter, Cunningham hit .340 with and led his conference with 65 runs scored. Anders enjoyed a breakout season at Temple Junior College this past spring, as he hit .411 with 17 doubles, six stolen bases and seven home runs. With power hitters Eric Udell, Dustin Dickerson, and Cliff Vaughn hitting in the middle of the lineup, the Bombers will have an excellent combination of speed and power.
The Bombers will travel to Coppell to face the 2007 TCL Champion Copperheads tomorrow in their season opener before returning home to Brazos Valley for their home opener on Thursday. Beers will be available for $1 each and soft drinks will be $.50 off as a part of Thirty Thursdays, which returns this season along with the many other Bomber promotional nights, which include Kids Eat Free Tuesdays, Margaritaville Wednesdays, Fireworks Fridays, Saturday Giveaways, and Sunday Bingo.
It will be an exciting summer for the Bombers as they prepare for the upcoming season.
