HUNTSVILLE -- Sam Houston State freshman Dallas Gallant was an honorable mention selection on the Ping Freshman All-American team released this week.
Gallant finished the season 9-4 on the year with a 4.98 ERA. He was stellar this year against Southland Conference opponents, compiling a 9-1 mark in the SLC regular season and postseason.
Gallant, from Trinity, tossed three complete games this year including his last two starts of the year. He opened the Southland Conference Tournament against Northwestern State going the distance while striking out four and allowing just one run. Gallant then came back three days later and pitched two innings of relief to notch the victory.
Gallant perhaps saved his best outing for the NCAA Tournament. In the opening game of the Houston Regional against No. 6 RIce, he kept the Owl hitters off-balanced the entire game. Gallant threw his second consecutive complete game, taking the loss 3-2. He fanned three Rice batters, not allowing a run after the fourth inning.
For the season, Gallant appeared in 21 games, making 11 starts. He pitched a team-high 86 2/3 innings while notching 60 strikeouts.
