Comments: Cayuga beat Wortham 25-8, 25-20, 25-13 and lost to tournament champion Water Valley 2-1 at the Bronte tournament. Leon lost to Centerville 25-23, 25-12, 25-23 and finished second in the Pure Energy tournament after losing to 5A Harker Heights. Iola and Leon continue to beat most comers, marking a strong 1A along with RTC, Avery and Burton. Burton beat Anderson-Shiro in 3 games and lost to 2A power Lexington while the Munday Mogulettes lost to Christ Academy in 4 sets then beat 2A Childress in 3 sets to improve to 12-6. Evadale def 2A Deweyville 3-1 and beat Chester 2-1. Evadale lost to 3A schools Hardin Jefferson and Liberty but beat Sabine Pass to improve to 11-3. Yorktown is another one of those small schools with a deceiving overall record after losing to predominantly large schools. Yorktown has not lost to another 1A school and is playing well of late. Milano swept Bartlett but lost to Thorndale in five, 15-11 in the fifth.

Comments: Brock won the White Oak tournament beating Longview Spring Hill in the finals 26-24, 25-6 after beating White Oak semifinals 25-19. 25-15. Schulenburg beat Hallettsville 3-1 in the 28-AA opener behind 14 kills by Sarah Walker. Schulenburg has just one senior, just like Hallettsville. The Commerce Lady Tigers sweep Como Pickton to start district. Last Tuesday Commerce went 5 games with Caddo Mills after being down 2 at the beginning of the night. Commerce won Cumby tournament last weekend. Centerville defeated Jewett Leon 25-23, 25-12, 25-23. Centerville is now 24-2. Centerville defeated Crawford in 3 straight earlier in the season. Pilot Point beat Sunnyvale to improve to 18-5 while Lexington continues to roll placing third at the Snook tournament after losing to 1A power Iola 25-19, 26-24. Lexington beat Cameron Yoe 19, 21 and 18. Crawford beat 3A Robinson 15, 9, 12 then beat Franklin 11, 17, 20 to improve to 22-5. Poth is another one of those good teams with a horrible record after playing mostly really good 4A and 5A teams. Poth beat Karnes City, 14, 11 and 15 as Alyssa Kallies had 11 kills and Devon Dylla added six kills. Amanda Wauters notched 21 assists. Poth is 13-15 overall but has no losses to another 2A school. The Hawley Lady Bearcats are rebuilding an entire program and are 15-3 on the season beating Santa Anna 25-16, 25-18 for the silver bracket championship at the Albany tournament then losing in the gold bracket finals to Millsap at the Gorman Spikefest and racing off four wins since that loss. Schulenburg beat East Bernard while the Brock Lady Eagles went a perfect 7-0 last week without dropping a single set. On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Ft. Worth to play the 4A Lady Scorpions of South Hills High School winning 14, 6 and 11. Playing in the White Oak tournament, Brock was unbeaten with a win in the finals over 3A power Longview Spring Hill 26-24 and 25-6 in the championship match. Three Lady Eagles made the all-tournament team. Seniors Amy Henard, Braylee Flaska, and Abbey Drillette were all named to the all-tournament team. The Lady Eagles are now 23-2 on the year.

Comments: Decatur won the Nocona tournament to improve to 25-2 with wins over: Paradise, Iowa Park, Henrietta, Celina and Holliday in the tournament finals. Three all tournament selections, all three sophomores: MVP Makayla Mayfield, setter Stormi Leonard and right side hitter Cooper Martin. Mineola is 20-4 after moving up from 2A to 3A. Tarkington and Bellville are playing well as is Mexia. Van beat Rusk 25-10, 25-13, 25-15 as Susannah Wisdom led in kills with 11. Haley McCarty had 9 kills and Bri Thompson had 8 kills. Morgan Wilkerson had 33 assists. At Brownsboro Tournament, the Lady Vandals lost to Rains and All-Saints but beat Overton. In Challenger bracket Van beat Brownsboro, Palestine and Overton to take the Challenger Bracket Championship to improve to 22-3. Diboll improved its season record to 21-6, with a win over Fairfield, and finishing second at the Woodville Tournament, after going undefeated in pool play, losing in the championship to Huffman-Hargrave. Carthage beat Kilgore 22, 19, 22 as Lesha Bryant had ten kills with nine blocks and Shelby Soape added nine kills. Kenzie Tate had 28 assists. Fredericksburg beat Lampasas 25-6, 25-16, 25-16. Argyle (17-9) defeated Peaster 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-17) on Friday evening in Argyle. Leading the Lady Eagles was Brooke Robertson with 14 kills, Eighmy Dobbins had 8 aces and Blair O'Brien had 35 assists.

Comments: Subject: Canyon is 21-5 but plays in the brutal district with Amarillo, Dumas and Randall, ouch. Amarillo and Abilene Wylie are playing well while Hutto beat Georgetown 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 as Madison Arsenault had seven blocks, Audriana Carson had 11 kills. Dripping Springs beat Cedar Park. 3-1 while Waxahachie improved to 20-5 with notable wins over: Tascosa, Mansfield Summit, Waco Midway, Dumas and Argyle. Elsewhere, the Dumas Demonettes (23-3) capped their week with a five set thriller after traveling the 350 mile RT to Frenship winning 15-7 in the 5th. An injury to El Paso Chapin setter Sarah Sherman has made that district closer with El Paso High chasing Chapin. In a wild district with Cedar Park, Dripping Springs, Vista Ridge, Vandegrift and Rouse, a couple of very good teams will not make playoffs.

Comments: Lubbock Coronado beat Amarillo Tascosa 27-25, 26-24, 25-23 then Odessa Permian 25-7, 25-19, 25-18 to improve to 22-5 overall, 3-0 in district. New Braunfels Canyon beat CC Carroll 25-20, 25-21, 25-15. New Braunfels crushed Steele 9, 14 and 19. Harker Heights Knights and Copperas Cove Bulldogs are both very athletic. The Lady Knights (23-3) staved off Leon’s rally in Game 1 to build momentum and an insurmountable lead in Game 2 en route to their 27-25, 25-14 championship match win at the Pure Energy Classic and were second at the Cedar Creek Tournament. In other top team actions, Coppell beat Plano West 23-25, 25-17, 29-27, and 25-20 while Southlake Carroll ran rough shod over Haltom 25-4, 25-10, 25-12. Colleyville Heritage swept Nimitz and the Woodlands muscled up on Conroe 25-12, 25-10, 25-18 then swept Spring Westfield 6, 13 and nicked Klein 25-13, 25-16. In Central Texas, Westwood swept Stony Point and Round Rock swept Hendrickson.
