NEW YORK -- Arizona guard Jerryd Bayless has been taken by the Indiana Pacers with the 11th overall choice in the NBA draft.
Bayless turned pro after just one year with the Wildcats,
averaging 19.7 points and 4.0 assists in college. He was named to
the Pac-10 All-Freshman team and earned second-team status overall.
He also was an honorable mention on the AP All-America team, and a
finalist for the Wooden Award.
The 6-foot-3 Bayless ranked third in the conference in scoring
last season and was fourth with an .839 free-throw percentage. He
scored at least 20 points in 16 of his 30 games, including a
career-high 39 on 12-for-18 shooting against Arizona State. Bayless
also went 16-for-16 from the line in a game against Stanford, and
had a 19-point effort against Kansas, the eventual national champs.
Bayless is an excellent two-way player who hit 41 percent of his
three-point tries last season, going 59-for-145.
