MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Former NFL and West Virginia University
quarterback Oliver Luck will serve a four-year term on the West
Virginia University Board of Governors.
Luck spent five seasons as quarterback with the Houston Oilers.
He's now president of the Houston Dynamo franchise in Major League
Governor Joe Manchin says Luck's term on WVU board will start
Before he took over the Dynamo, Luck was chief executive of the
Harris County-Houston Sports Authority in Texas. He also worked as
vice president of business development for the National Football
The board's most important task in the coming months is choosing
a temporary, then a permanent replacement for President Mike
Garrison, who is resigning over a master's degree scandal involving
Faculty, alumni and students have urged the governor to appoint
board members who are independent, well respected and capable of
rebuilding the school's image.
The board has several vacancies, with terms expiring June 30th.
