LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Texas Tech is mourning the loss of former
basketball coach and athletic director Polk Robison.
School officials say Robison died yesterday at the age of 96.
Robison is the second-winningest coach in Texas Tech history.
He's also credited with helping elevate the program from obscurity
in the 1950s, when the Red Raiders joined the Southwest Conference.
Robison coached Tech from 1942 to 1961, then served as athletic
director until 1969.
Funeral arrangements were pending Saturday.
