OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Jason Lezak set an American record in the
100-meter freestyle, then Garrett Weber-Gale lowered it again at
the U.S. Olympic swimming trials.
Lezak, a 32-year-old from Irvine, Calif., won his preliminary
heat in 48.15 seconds, bettering his old mark of 48.17 set four
years ago at the trials in Long Beach, Calif.
In the next heat, Weber-Gale went even lower, touching in 47.78.
Ryan Lochte finished third in 48.88.
Michael Phelps swam in the final heat and won it in 47.92. Ian
Crocker was disqualified for a false start.
