IOLA -- Just when you thought things had settled down a bit in the small town of Iola, the high school has another coaching change to fill.
Russell Smithey turned in his resignation Monday as the school's athletic director and head baseball coach.
Smithey was promoted to A.D. last May following the retirement of Randy McDougald, who served as the Bulldogs A.D. and head football coach for 17 years.
According to Iola School Superintendent Doug Devine, Smithey is getting out of the school business and perusing other avenues.
Smithey graduated from Iola in the mid 90's, played collegiately at the College of the Ozarks and this past January was inducted into their sports hall of fame.
Smithey returned to his Alma Mater in 2002 to be the head baseball coach and led the Dogs to four straight trips to the playoffs.
