PINEVILLE, La. -- The College Station Twelve 11U AAA team moved to 4-0 in the USSSA World Series with a 9-1 victory over the Texas Stars on Wednesday afternoon at the Ward 9 Pineville Sportsplex.
Luke McClure pitched a four-inning, complete game on Wednesday, allowing just six hits and one walk while striking out seven hitters to move College Station into the winner’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament. The Twelve will play Thursday at 11 a.m.
College Station’s Ryan Johnson continued his torrid stretch at the plate on Wednesday, blasting a solo homer to give the Twelve the run-rule victory. The hot-hitting Johnson has hit four home runs in three days.
Other offensive standouts for the Twelve on Wednesday included Cameron Carver (who started a six-run rally in the second inning with a base hit), Payton Burson and Zach Oden (both 1-for-1 with two runs scored) and Kyle Barfield and Jeremy Johnson (two RBI each).
In the opening game on Monday, the Twelve blasted Mississippi’s Hancock Hawks 20-1. Ryan Johnson had three doubles and four RBI, while Jeremy Johnson, Jake Georgiades and Barfield had two hits apiece. Brett Harp also had a big triple.
The Twelve defeated the Georgia Yard Dogs in the second game on Monday, as Ryan Johnson went 3-for-3 with a triple and two homers. Walker Davis, Barfield and Jeremy Johnson had key hits.
In the final game of pool play on Tuesday, Davis pitched five innings, scattering five hits as the Twelve rolled to a 7-2 win over the Houston-based Texas Legends. Ryan Johnson and McClure were both 3-for-3 against the Legends.
