LINCOLN, NE -- Texas A&M’s John Hurley closed with an even-par 72 on Friday and tied for second at the 100th Nebraska Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Lincoln.
With a two-under total of 72-72-70-72=286, Hurley finished two shots behind Jayson Brueggemann (70-70-74-70=284). Hurley was the only player in the field to shoot par or better in all four rounds. He
Hurley was in position to win the title with four holes remaining, but suffered a double-bogey 6 on the 15th before closing with three straight pars. Brueggemann dropped birdies on the 16th and 18th to claim the trophy.
Hurley will be a sophomore at A&M this fall after redshirting last season. He won the 2007 Nebraska Match Play Championship.
