COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M volleyball team will go through its first official practice of the preseason Saturday at G. Rollie White Coliseum. The Aggies begin drills at 2 p.m. and will practice for approximately three hours.
The Aggies also will have a single practice Sunday at 2 p.m. before beginning two-a-day practices Monday with three-hour sessions slated to begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Practices are open to the public.
Laurie Corbelli, entering her 16th season as head coach of the Aggies, returns nine letterwinners -- including five starters -- from last year’s team that went 21-10 and tied for sixth in the Big 12 with a 10-10 record. In addition, Corbelli welcomes five talented newcomers, four of whom enrolled at A&M in January and gained valuable playing experience within the system by participating in spring drills, as well as going on the team’s two-week training trip to Europe in June.
The Aggies embark on an ambitious schedule starting August 29 against SEC-rival LSU at the Bluejay Invitational in Omaha, Neb. A&M also will face Minnesota and host Creighton at the two-day tournament.
A&M makes its home debut Sept. 5-6, hosting American, Siena and BYU. Both American and Siena won their conference tournaments last year to earn an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament, and BYU ranked No. 12 in the final AVCA Top 25 after advancing to the NCAA regionals.
Overall, seven of A&M’s 10 pre-conference matches will be against teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2007. In addition, 12 of 20 conference matches will be against NCAA teams.
The Aggies, who are scheduled to host a total of 14 home matches, play their Big 12 home opener Sunday, Sept. 21 against Oklahoma.
Tickets to all A&M home matches can be purchased online at 12thmanfoundation.com or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AGGIE.
