COLLEGE STATION --Texas A&M sophomore Rachel Shipley was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The Plano, Texas, native led the Aggies to two wins over the weekend while tallying seven points. She scored the first A&M goal of the year in the 10th minute of a 3-2 win over Rhode Island and added an assist in the 20th minute. In Sunday’s 9-0 victory over McNeese State, the midfielder contributed to three of the four first-half goals during a three-minute span. She sent two corner kicks into the box and also scored her second goal of the season.

“What a great accomplishment for Rachel after a remarkable weekend,” said A&M head coach G Guerrieri. “She had an impressive spring and has started the fall season off along the same note.”

The A&M Newcomer of the Year in 2007 was selected as a conference player of the week for the second time in her career. Shipley was previously named Newcomer of the Week on Oct. 16, 2007.
