BRYAN- There was a ton of pressure on the Bryan football team Friday night, but the Vikings managed to transfer that heat to the Cy Falls Eagles, posting a 28-to-20 win.
The eyes of the Brazos Valley were on the grassy bowl just off Briarcrest because it was Merrill Green Night.
Viking Stadium officially became Merrill Green Stadium.
The long-time coach and school board member was honored at the half.
It fell to the team to complete the feat.
Bryan started strongly, an interception led to a Monterrell Washington touchdown and a 7-to-0 lead.
The Eagles scored twice in the second period..... one of those scores coming on a flashy quarterback keeper by Kolby Gray who leaped at the goal line and stretched the ball over the stripe for the td.
A seven yard run by Washington tied the game 14-to-14 just before the intermission.
A key turn of events came in the fourth quarter.
Cy Falls recovered a Bryan fumble deep in Viking territory.
But the Big Blue defense immediately returned the favor.
Chris Ramirez recovered and advanced the ball, not only killing the Eagle drive, but setting up an insurance touchdown for the home team.
After the 28-to-20 win, the team presented the game ball to Merrill and Bonnie Green.
The Vikes now hit the road for Leander Thursday.
