NEW YORK CITY, NY -- Lance Armstrong's reported comeback won't take place with the Astana cycling team.
The cycling journal VeloNews had reported today that the
36-year-old seven-time Tour de France champion would compete in the
Tour and four other road races with Astana in 2009.
However, Astana team press officer Philippe Maertens tells The Associated Press that the Austin cycling great is not part of Team Astana and that the team "has no plans
Astana team director Johan Bruyneel also told cyclingnews.com that he was unaware of any Armstrong comeback.
Bruyneel was with Armstrong for all seven of his Tour wins from
Armstrong, Bruyneel and Armstrong manager Mark Higgins hasn't
returned messages left for him by The AP.
