PLANO -- Jenny Pence, sophomore goalkeeper for Sam Houston State from Kingwood, has been named Southland Conference women's soccer "Goalkeeper of the Week" after leading the Bearkats to a pair of shutout victories last weekend.
Pence played all 180 minutes in goal and the Bearkats defeated Colorado State-Pueblo 1-0 and South Alabama 3-0.
The two victories extended Sam Houston's current winning streak to three matches, the longest winning streak in the six-year history of the SHSU program.
The Bearkat defense has not given up a goal for 292 consecutive minutes, also a school record. Sam Houston's 3-2 record marks the best start for the Kat soccer team ever.
The award marks the second time Pence has been named SLC "Goalkeeper of the Week." She also earned the honor last year as a freshman.
For the season, Pence only five goals in 450 minutes of action.
Sam Houston State's next match will be Friday, Sept. 19, when the Bearkats play host to Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. at Pritchett Field.
