COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M junior Cydne Currie was honored as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
In just three weeks of the 2008 season the Irving, Texas, native is the third-straight Aggie to be named offensive player of the week and second-consecutive Soccer Buzz Elite Team honoree.
Currie comes off of a weekend in which she started and scored in two road victories, netting the first of A&M’s goals in a 3-1 win against Virginia Tech on Friday. The forward then headed the game-winning goal in the Aggies’ first win against a ranked opponent with a 2-1 triumph over No. 17 Wake Forest.
Currie leads the team with four goals, including two game-winners and received the Big 12 honor for the first time in her career.
Sophomore Rachel Shipley and junior Amber Gnatzig were the other two conference players of the week this year and Gnatzig was selected to the Elite Team last week.
The Aggies return to the pitch on Friday with a home match against Princeton at 7:30 p.m.
