COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The back-to-back Big 12 champion Texas A&M baseball team begins its preparations for the 2009 season on Monday as the Aggies open fall practice at Olsen Field.

The 35-man fall roster is divided into two teams that will scrimmage each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at around 3 p.m. Regular workouts will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons as well. All practices and scrimmages are open to the public.

“All of us—coaches, players and staff—cannot wait to get back on the diamond,” head coach Rob Childress said. “While we did bring home a championship last year, we left some goals of ours out on the field, and I know we can’t wait to get after it again starting on Monday. This group is committed to working hard every single day to realize those goals and ultimately bring a national title home to Aggieland.”

A&M will conclude workouts with the annual Fall World Series, set to begin on October 22.

The Aggies return 15 letterwinners, four position starters and nine pitchers from a 2008 squad that won the Big 12 regular-season title and the NCAA College Station Regional championship. A&M, which enters the fall having claimed back-to-back regional titles for the first time in school history, opens the 2009 season on Friday, Feb. 20 against Wright State at Olsen Field.
