COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M softball team prepares to defend its Big 12 title as it begins fall practice on Tuesday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Following a second-consecutive trip to the Women’s College World series, a program-best 57 wins, and a national runner-up finish, the 2009 version of Aggie softball is ready to step foot on the diamond.
“We are looking forward to beginning team practices,” said head coach Jo Evans. “Our players have worked hard in the off-season to be physically and mentally prepared for our first day of practice. They have established a culture of great work ethic and fierce competitiveness which begins on the practice field and carries over into game day. It will be fun to see our newcomers jump in and establish themselves as an integral part of our program.”
The Aggies return 10 letterwinners and welcome five newcomers to this year’s squad and open the fall season at home on Tuesday, Sept. 30 with a doubleheader against Temple Junior College.
A&M wraps up its fall with the Maroon & White series, a three-game, intrasquad scrimmage, Oct. 15-17. Practices are open to the public and all home games in the fall are free of charge.
