SOMERVILLE -- Cody Holliday put in a full days work in the first 15 minutes of Friday night's game against Iola as Somerville posted a 46-12 win.
Holiday threw a perfect strike of 58 yards to Damien Brooks on the Yeguas 4th play from scrimmage to give Somerville 7-0 lead.
Then the next time Somerville had the ball on offense, Holiday torched the Bulldog secondary with another long touchdown strike. This one covering 60 yards to P.J. Pleasant covering 60 yards as the Yeguas ups its advantage to 14-0.
Iola will get on the scoreboard in the 2nd quarter as Bulldog quarterback Ross Johnson runs the quarterback sneak on 4th and 1 at the Somerville 27.
Johnson not only picks up the first down, but finds a seam and takes it 27 yards for the touchdown reducing the home team's lead to 8.
But Holiday and the Yegua offense will answer. Facing 3rd and 16 at their own 20, Holiday drops back to pass for a brief moment and then takes off on an 80 yard touchdown run.
The junior signal caller weaves his way through the Iola defense as Somerville takes a 20-6 lead with 8:54 left in the 2nd quarter.
Somerville sends the home crowd home with a smile in the Yeguas win their home opener 46-12.
Somerville improves to 2-1 on the year and will be back in action October 3rd when they host Hallettsville Sacred Heart at "The Rock" at 7:30.
Iola returns home next Friday night to host Thorndale at 7:30. The Bulldogs have lost 15 in a row dating back to the 2006 season.
