NEWPORT, R.I. – The No. 9-ranked Texas A&M men’s golf team opens its fall season at the 15th Annual Adams Cup of Newport on Monday and Tuesday at Newport National Golf Club.
The 15-team field will play 36 holes on Monday and a final 18 on Tuesday. Joining A&M in the field are Akron, Brown, Connecticut, Francis Marion, Furman, George Washington, Hartford, Marshall, Minnesota, Navy, New Mexico State, Rhode Island, Southern Mississippi, Saint Joseph’s and Temple.
A&M will be represented by seniors Bronson Burgoon and Matt Van Zandt, junior Andrea Pavan and sophomores Conrad Shindler and John Hurley.
“The team is so fired up to get this season started,” A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. “They are hungry and want to pick up this season where we left off last year. The last time we played in Rhode Island we won the tournament in 2005 and while Bronson is the only player that made the trip when he was a freshman, we have great memories of Newport and Newport National Golf Club. It is a terrific course that sets up well for us.”
The Aggies return four starters from last season, when they finished 12th at the NCAA Championship, the school’s best since 1984.
