A&M Men To Tee It Up In Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio -- The No. 13-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team will face one of its toughest tests all season starting Sunday at the 20th annual PING/Golfweek Preview at storied Inverness Golf Club.

Inverness, the site of the NCAA Championship in May, has played host to six major professional championships -- U.S. Opens in 1920, 1931, 1957 and 1979, and PGA Championships in 1986 and 1993.

The Aggies are coming off a season-opening win at the Adams Cup of Newport last week in Newport, R.I. Senior Bronson Burgoon captured the individual title in leading the Aggies to a 13-stroke victory.

Sophomore All-American Nacho Elvira, who missed the opener with a wrist injury, will return to action this week. Burgoon and Elvira will be joined in the lineup by junior Andrea Pavan and sophomores Conrad Shindler amd John Hurley. Pavan finished second to Burgoon at the Adams Cup.

"It's great to have Nacho back in the lineup," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "He is nearly 100 percent and he is really excited to be playing again."

Other teams in the field are No. 2 Southern California, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Georgia, No. 6 Clemson, No. 7 Florida, No. 9 Chattanooga, No. 10 Florida State, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 15 Georgia Tech, No. 17 Charlotte and No. 23 Kent State.

"The Preview is the biggest event of the fall season," Higgins said. "It provides us with a great opportunity to see the NCAA Championship course under tournament conditions against a great field of teams. Inverness is a challenging layout but the guys are confident and are looking forward to teeing it up again."
