COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Due to Kilgore College's (Texas) 20-17 triple-overtime victory over last week's No. 1 Blinn College (Texas) on Sept. 27, this week's NJCAA / JC Football.com Top 20 has a new team in the No. 1 post. The Navarro College (Texas) Bulldogs, with a 4-0 overall record, move into the top spot with 139 total poll points and six of seven first place votes. Navarro is followed by Snow College ( Utah) at No. 2, Jones County Junior College (Miss.) at No. 3, Butler Community College (Kan.) at No. 4 and Georgia Military College at No. 5.
Blinn falls seven spots to No. 8 this week behind No. 6 Iowa Central Community College and No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Navarro scored 24 points in the second quarter against Tyler Junior College (Texas), which erased a 14-point deficit, to take home a 44-34 victory. William Powell rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns, while Milton Howell rushed for 114 yards.
The Bulldogs currently rank sixth in the country in rushing, averaging 237.5 yards per game on the ground.
Navarro faces another tough task this weekend when they host No. 12 Trinity Valley Community College (Texas). This will be the third ranked opponent Navarro has faced thus far this season (Coffeyville, Georgia Military and Kilgore).
Snow took control of the Western States Football League race last weekend with a big 45-13 win at No. 9 Glendale Community College (Ariz.). The Badgers shutout the Gauchos the last three quarters while scoring 38 unanswered points to overcome a 13-7 first quarter deficit.
The Badgers racked up 380 total yards in the game. Freshman quarterback Quinn Mecham threw for 166 yards and four touchdowns in the contest, while running back Tyson Church finished with 135 yards on the ground.
Snow's defense held Glendale to just three total offensive yards in the second half, and 154 total yards for the game. Snow also forced three Glendale turnovers, picking off two passes and recovering a fumble. Travis Barney returned his interception for a touchdown.
Snow hits the road again next week, when they travel to Scottsdale Community College (Ariz.).
Jones County quarterback Early James hit wide receiver Anthony Jackson for a 99-yard touchdown pass for what proved to be the game-winning score with 6:21 remaining to help the unbeaten Bobcats outlast Hinds Community College (Miss.) 31-24 last Thursday.
Bobcat running back Daniel Borne rushed for 89 yards and scored three touchdowns in the win. He now has 11 TD's on the season, which ranks first in the NJCAA.
The Bobcats will next host No. 10 Pearl River Community College (Miss.) on Oct. 2.
Butler moved to 4-1 on the season with a convincing 21-6 victory over Coffeyville Community College (Kan.). Butler scored on its first two possessions with a 57-yard run by Randell Bell and a long drive capped off by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Press Taylor to Tyrece Gaines to give the Grizzlies an early 14-0 lead. Butler kept the Red Ravens out of the end zone and chewed up the clock by handing the ball to Bell who rushed for 123 yards on 20 carries and scored two of Butler's three touchdowns.
The Grizzlies next host Hutchinson Community College ( Kan.) this Saturday.
Georgia Military moves up two spots in the poll this week after cruising to a 55-9 over Louisburg College (N.C.). The Bulldogs are now 3-1 on the season and face Troy University JV next Sunday.
