Rankings Out For A&M Harriers

New Orleans – The first national poll following the preseason version for cross country has the Texas A&M men’s team at No. 28 in the nation and No. 2 in the South Central region. The Aggie women are No. 6 in the regional poll.

The next competition for the A&M squad is this Friday, October 3, in South Bend, Indiana, when the Aggies run in the Notre Dame Invitational. The meet will feature 17 ranked teams.

The women’s field at Notre Dame will feature 10 ranked teams, led by No. 3 Florida State and No. 6 Princeton. Other ranked teams include 10. Illinois, 13. Providence, 14. Florida, 15. Michigan, 18. New Mexico, 19. Rice, 25. Boston College, and 28. North Carolina.

No. 8 Michigan and No. 9 Georgetown led the men’s field that includes a total of seven top 30 teams. The other ranked squads include: 19. Providence, 26. Florida State, 27. Notre Dame, 28. Texas A&M, and 29. New Mexico.

In the national rankings released by the United State Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association, Oregon ranks No. 1 in both the men’s and women’s poll. Texas tops the men’s South Central region poll with Texas A&M second and Arkansas third. In the women’s regional poll the top three squads in the South Central are Arkansas, Baylor and Rice.
