SPRING, Texas – The Texas A&M softball team hit four home runs and earned two victories to close out the Spring Klein College Classic at Collins Park on Sunday. The Aggies downed Texas-San Antonio, 6-2, and won 9-1 in six innings against Stephen F. Austin.
“I’m really happy with the way our kids bounced back after a disappointing loss against Louisiana Lafayette on Saturday,” said head coach Jo Evans. “I thought our kids played hard and both pitchers took control of the game. Our offensive production was better and collectively as a team we came together today.”
UTSA was up 2-0 against the Aggies before senior Erin Glasco launched a three-run home run in the third inning to give A&M a 3-2 lead.
Sophomore Rhiannon Kliesing hit a solo home run in the fourth frame and freshman Taryn Broussard smacked a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Aggies a 6-2 win.
Glasco, Kliesing and senior Holly Ridley went 2-for-3. Ridley also scored two runs. Freshman Rebecca Arbino earned the win from the mound after throwing a complete game with five K’s.
A&M defeated Stephen F. Austin in the 2008 NCAA Regional and faced the Ladyjacks in its second game of the day. SFA scored first, but the Aggies answered quickly as junior Alex Reynolds laced a three-run home run in the second.
The Aggies never looked back and Kliesing gave a solid performance in the circle allowing just three hits and striking out four.
Junior Macie Morrow led the offense going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and five RBI. The Sugar Land, Texas, native hit a bases-clearing triple in the 6th inning to put the Aggies up 9-1 and end the game in a run rule.
Ridley went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The Aggies play their final doubleheader of the fall season against Blinn College on Thursday. The games begin at 5 p.m. and admission is free of charge.
