COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M senior Laura Grace Robinson and freshman Becca Herrera were named Big 12 Players of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
From Houston, Texas, Robinson was selected as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. The midfielder had a foot in three goals to lead the seventh-ranked Aggies to two conference victories last weekend. She scored the game-winning goal and assisted sophomore Rachel Shipley’s third goal in a 5-0 shutout of Oklahoma. Robinson also netted the first goal two minutes into a 2-1 win over then No. 10 Oklahoma State. She led the Aggies with five points over two games.
Herrera was chosen as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. The Aurora, Colo., native contributed two assists in the first two goals of A&M’s win over OU. She sent in two beautiful balls that were headed into the back of the netting, one off of a free kick and the other off of a corner kick. The defender also started and played a full 90 minutes as the Aggies handed the Cowgirls their first loss of the season after holding them to a season-low, single goal.
Robinson received a conference weekly honor for the second time in her career and Herrera earned the award for the first time. The last Aggie to be named player of the week was sophomore Kelly Dyer on Sept. 30. The A&M soccer team produced at least one player of the week in every week of competition this season.
A&M soccer (10-1-1, 3-0-1 Big 12) was ranked fourth in the first release of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) and returns to action on Friday hosting Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
